Day off! Or not...

Today -- Monday -- is supposed to be my day off as i worked on Saturday night shift. Dear had promised me that he will clean the house on Sunday and that i should just sleep on Sunday after my shift and i will wake up to a nice clean house.

Unfortunately, he came back at 7pm after the recce trip for our Malacca trip. So how? In the end he looked at me sadly and said he cannot clean cos his back hurts. sigh... So all that i planned to do later today is gone. I will be spending my day off cleaning.

I can't believe it!!!

Magazines, anyone?

I've been reading Woman's Day for quite some time now, but have stopped buying the magazines so religiously for a few months; instead i buy them when the articles look attractive. I've also bought 2 issues of BBC's Good Food as their recipes are simple to follow and it makes for interesting -- and yummy -- reads.

What i like about Woman's Day is the articles are practical and they have interesting recipe cards as well as craft and deco articles. Their website has also fantastic recipes and the one i like is their rustic apple pie. Its so simple and yet delicious!

As for the food magazine, nope, i'm not a good cook but i like to look at recipes and try them out. The BBC food website is marvelous too! *slurp slurp*

My magazine reading habits have changed from the Her World types to those aunty aunty types. :) But my fiction taste is still the same. haha!

If anyone is interested in borrowing the past issues, let me know and we can arrange to meet up. :)

New friends!

Met up with J, Sh & A today with their 2 toddlers. Its nice meeting new people and getting to know them, although you can't really learn much about each other within 2 hours. But its always nice to get to know more people and open up my horizons. :)

We went to Food For Thought at North Bridge Centre for lunch. Wanted to take a shot of my lunch but there's something wrong with my hp camera, and i didn't bring my new camera with me! :( But i like the combo set that i had, which was pulled pork sandwich with Chinese chicken Ceasar salad. Also had the lychee and sage freeze. Now i don't like lychees as a rule, but the lychee and sage freeze was just nice and sweet. :) At $10.90 for the combo, i think its really worth it!

After some chat over lunch, we left for separate places; the ladies with toddlers for shopping and me for books at the library. While waiting to cross the road, i was stopped by a lady asking for the location of the train station. I gave her the direction of Bugis Junction and she asked me where she could eat chicken rice! *scratch head* I told her i don't know where but she could try the food court. The lady then left abruptly, rather rude i think.

I then crossed the road. So pai seh; they were waiting for me at the other junction! J then told me they wanted to say 'goodbye'. So sweet of them, but felt so bad making them wait for me.

Must say i had fun, meeting mew people. Looking forward to the next outing! :)

Hey Mr Policeman...

Hey Mr Policeman, i saw you turning into the carpark yesterday evening at 2020hrs and i thought you were doing your patrols around the estate. When i returned from dinner at 2130hrs, you were parked at the season parking lot!

Talk about leading by example...

oww my arse...

At the airside of my building is a recently renovated -- wow, and mine is a new building! -- VVIP lounge which, apparently, is only for 4 men in Singapore to use. This lounge will now be receiving its first user tomorrow so today has been a spate of inspections.

Somehow the wonders that be have decided that the south staff entrance is to be closed and the north staff entrance is to be manned. This took effect in end Feb. What does this mean to us? It means that, in order to reach the south-south pier of my building, my poor guys have to walk from my office at the south end to the north staff entrance, then from the north staff entrance they have to trudge along the whole length of the building to the south-south pier! In effect, they have to walk the whole length of the building twice just to reach the south end of the building, then walk the same distance to the south-south pier.

So, in order to inspect the condition of the external of the lounge today before the inspection, i had to move from my office at B2 south to the first checkpoint at L1 south, then walk the length of the building to the north staff entrance -- horizontally the building is 1.6km long -- then backtrack to the southern area where the VVIP lounge was. After the inspection, repeat the same in the reverse direction. This makes 6.4km on a horizontal plane, not including the detours to inspect other areas. Then in order to meet my user at 2pm for the inspection, i repeated the whole ringamaroll again.

oww my poor arse... I walked a minimum of 12.8km today in my heels!!! sigh... And the first use of the lounge is tomorrow, so i'll have to inspect the area again before the use. Looking at a minimum of 2 inspections, that's another 12.8km... In heels! *ouch ouch*

Pampering session

After about 1 year, i went to Erabelle for facial with H last Saturday. We went to the outlet at Central, it being the most central -- haha -- for both of us.

We went there cos i saw the promotion for a rose facial, including eye, lip and neck treatment at $180. As i had been to Derma-Aesthetics before, way back about 7 years ago, i knew the price was similar to what i had paid back then. As such i didn't feel the price was too high.

In the end, i paid for a 3 treatment package, which set me back by $540 before GST. H felt it was too expensive and didn't take it up. Is it? I had used their products and treatment before and i felt it worked on me. The only reason i stopped was because i was leaving for the 2 year stint at NBD. Now that i'm back, i may continue with it lor. The price is the only factor that's causing me to think twice.

Anyway, dear likes the result. He felt my skin is softer -- heehee! money well spent! -- but when he heard the amount per session, his reaction was to spew out his drink and he said, "$540!!! I buy exhaust pipe at $1080 for titanium more justifiable lor! And its supposed to last forever!" sigh... Men!

Vandal apprehended!

The resident of a unit at JBHS was stunned when she returned home after buying cat litter at the neigbourhood pet shop. She came home to a vandalised unit, caused by indiscriminate spraying of liquid.
Stains on the base and the sponge foam

"I thought it was all right! I came home to put down my bag and all was well. When I came back again, there was water marks all over!" was her reply to her husband when he returned shortly after.

Luckily, the wife was able to apprehend the vandal without any danger to herself and swift punishment was meted out. It is hoped that there would be no future recurrences of the incident, but the couple are now considering having to purchase a new set of sponge foam for their sofa.
The suspect initially denied all involvement
All are advised to ensure plentiful supply of litter for immediate change once the lot is soaked through by rain.
GUILTY! 1 DAY IMPRISONMENT!

bread bread bread!

Yay! I collected my new 'bread' from SP and its so soft! :) Thanks for meeting me to deliver the item, Sh! :)

Just told J that it arrived at a correct time too. I washed it and so will be using it soon. haha! But will only use it at home for the time being, and probably buy more liners to change.

Its not as thick as what i feared, though seeing the night version that R asked me to get was scary lor. Its super duper super long! Maybe its just that i'm not used to using the long types, so seeing the night version was scary to me. *shudder*

But the print looks prettier in the picture leh... Oh well, at least its pink. Dear was amused when i showed it to him and he was figuring out how what goes where when. Men!

Red panties?

Have been sick very often recently. I have this very persistent cough that has lasted 2 months, and it comes and goes after 1 week break. So when i thought i finally kicked off the cough, it comes back! This time round it came back with a vengence.

After having UTI and paying $94 for bloody antibiotics and a cough syrup at this bloody Green Cross Medical Centre at Tampines -- don't ever go there unless you want to pay so much!!! I've going to CASE the first free weekend i have lor... -- on 3 Apr, i had only 1 week's respite before coughing again last Thursday. And the stupid GCMC's cough syrup didn't work; it only made my cough worse! Its the worst waste of money ever. I should have just bought lots and lots of ice-cream; at least i would have enjoyed myself for a while!

So it was a case of slow and steady cough building up over the weekend, and in the end i had a high fever of almost 39 degrees plus wrecking coughs. Poor dear; it must not be comfortable sleeping in the same bed with someone who keeps shaking the bed with coughs! And its not the Dolores Umbridge -- at least to my imagination -- 'hem hem' kind of cough. Mine was the kind where the lungs are almost coming out type. But more of cough until red in the face or until i threw up. Which i did. Many times. For both former and latter type.

Sigh... Is this the 100-days cough i wonder? H says its likely to be. :( But she also told me today that she just remembered this is a bad year for the tiger's health. Seems that i'm supposed to wear red panties for this whole year to ward off ill health! haha! Well, if anything it at least gives me a good reason to buy more panties. :)

Whatever it is, i hope i can kick off this cough soon. I went to RMG at T3 and got a chest X-ray; apparently my lungs are now slightly inflammed and infected. The blood vessels seem more prominent too. :( It was $94.60, but i think its worth it! At least i had lots more medication and an X-ray thrown in too. Not like that bloodsucker GCMC!

Hope there's nothing wrong. If the radiologist doesn't give any adverse comments and i can recover soon, i think i will go buy lots and lots of red panties and Vit C.

But the good side is; i lost some weight (but not visible leh. Clothes still the same) over the past 7 days. And i need to lose weight lor. so at least some good thing came out of this! :P

No dim sum...

We wanted to go for dim sum today, so we made our way to Red Star at Chin Swee. However, it was so full that the little lift lobby in front of the restaurant was packed with people waiting to enter! Needless to say, dear and i left without even queueing. By then it was also too late to go to Kulai in Malaysia for dim sum. :(

Other than East Ocean, anyother suggestions for a good and relatively decent priced place for dim sum? I don't really fancy the dim sum fare that forms part of the buffet fare at hotels...

Now i have a craving for dim sum... :(

Smart cats

Little plum told me that she saw, at the children's playground at the foot of her block, a tortoiseshell cat having fun on the slide not once, but twice! Unfortunately she didn't manage to take any shot of the feat as the first passed by in a flash -- pardon the pun -- and she didn't expect the second.

I think that's an amusing mental picture. I usually read of getting toys to stimulate your cat's minds, but i never thought cats could link children sliding down slides to fun. :) The only other cat feat i know of was told to me by a friend. He saw, on a windless day, a newspapermoving slowly towards some pigeons. When the newspaper was near the pigeons, a cat appeared and pounced on one unsuspecting bird. Wow!

I doubt horus would ever link newspapers to an unexpected meal, but tickled by little plum's message, dear and i rigged up a little slide using cardboard boxes. The first time horus slid down with a 'thump'. The second he landed a bit more gracefully, but from the third attempt, he hopped off once i released him. sigh... guess my horus boy isn't a slide loving cat after all!
