Reading other blogs and articles, i come across many different views. There is always two sides to an issue and while i am open to listening to other people's opinion, i don't believe in pushing my values down other people's throats. I'd rather state my own views and that's it. I don't say i'm right and you're wrong.
Everyone has their own value set. Even children by the same parents and brought up in the same household can have varying values in certain aspects. Its all in the free will that we are given. Then why is it that some people come across as being offensive when they insist on their values?
What makes YOUR value so much more better than mine? What you believe in may not be what i believe in or what i suscribe to. So why do you feel that you're so much better and superior to me?
That's what offends me whenever i read comments be it here, in other blogs, or in the newspapers. There are those -- to me at least -- fanatics who absolutely believe that they have it right and those who do not subscribe to their belief are hopelessly and extremely wrong. I say, PUI!!! Can a cow survive on grass? Can a lion survive on grass? Then can i say that the lion is wrong when it eats the cow instead of grass?
I may not agree with what you eat or say or do, but who am i to criticize your choices and to say it is wrong? I can read a blog about preparing veggie burgers and look at the ingredients and think to myself, 'wow, 'i can't imagine doing that!'' but am i to say the blog author is wrong? That's her choice! For all i may know, the blog author may be looking at my posts and thinking, "I can't believe she's so extravagant!'' Ya lor, but i keep my thoughts to myself and so do the others who read my posts.
From my limited contacts with people, my own conclusion is that there are certain people who are highly critical of others and who would not hesitate to trumpet their opinions to all and sundry. Of course its not fail-proof. I don't classify people immediately, being somewhat gullible (i admit!), but give people the benefit of the doubt (a libran charateristic?). The moment you fall into THAT category, its the yard-long pole for you...
